Welcome

Following the example of our friend and brother in Christ, Bob Hommel, a couple of us thought that it would be good to create this blog, where we could share inspirational thoughts and be edified and strengthened in our Lord Jesus Christ

The Bible says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sins that easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith” Hebrews 12:1-2

We pray that this blog will bless you as a place where we fellowship together and are encouraged in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Follow the Holy Spirit

Scripture: "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." John 14:26

A couple of months ago my wife started taking my grandson Seth to a young boys group at church called the Royal Rangers. It is kind of like a Christian Boy's Scouts where they wear a uniform and earn badges for things they learn. Well last week my wife told me that I had an assignment to do with Seth. He needed me to read him his work sheets and do the related tasks. One of the tasks was to start a Prayer Journal. I thought to myself this is cool. Seth had to ask all of us what to pray for and I would write it down in a notebook and then we would pray for these things. As you can imagine the idea is for us to do it every day. It was great the first night, he prayed with the sincere heart of a 4 year old and I was blessed.

Well that notebook sat on my desk for almost two weeks, convicting me that I should be praying with Seth everyday, but I could not seem to find the right time to do it. There seemed to be just too many things going on in our lives, it was even hard to just sit down at a dinner table together as a family.

A couple of days ago we all committed to have dinner together at 7:30 every night (that is the time my wife and my grandson get home from work and school because they have to come from Anaheim Hills) and after that we would have a family Bible and Prayer time. Of course that means that I will be making dinner every night since I come home as early as 5:30. (I only live 8 miles from work.) Now that is ok, I am a pretty good cook, but that will mean that I will have to figure out when to do some of the other things I did before like the yard, fix things, read, etc.

In this real life example, mine, it amazes me too things; 1) How quickly I fell into the enemies trap of excuses for not moving forward with my grandson's prayer journal exercise and 2) how persistant the Holy Spirit was in convicting me to make sure we implement this exercise which is going to turn into a regular family time together of dinner and a family altar. (We are also going to read from the Bible.)

Prayer Request: That we will hear the voice of God and follow what he tells us to do because He knows better then we do what is good for us.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for sending us your Holy Spirit to remind us of the things you taught us and to teach us to walk closer to you and your path.

Bruce, you touched my heart! For years, my wife and I have been trying to get a family sharing time going and have not been able to do so on a continuous basis.

Although we managed to do it sometimes, but more often we missed it, for one reason or another. It's amazing how our enemies are capable of confusing us with all kinds of distractions and busyness.

Thanks for this timely reminder. I feel like the Holy Spirit is once again urging to do something about it. Let's pray for one another so we can be faithful in bringing edifications to our daily life!

Bruce, I do understand that struggle. We are blessed that God's grace is always available to us, and when we fall, we can get up, dust off, put on a bandaid and continue running the race, as St. Paul says.
